About the Role

Supervise employees in a production environment; plan and assign work; implement policies and procedures and recommend improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions. Typical staff size 2-20.

Requirements and Responsibilities

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Balance quality, productivity, cost, safety and morale to achieve positive results in all areas

  • Must be able to assist Production Manager in continuously improving a system of production controls, standard operating procedure, safety, quality control, and performance management

  • Manage departmental performance measures, including visual controls and provide regular progress reports to manager

  • Ensure effective employee relations. Provide employee coaching and development

  • Perform accident investigations

  • Maintain proper inventory levels

  • Supervise Leads and hourly employees within the department


Job Knowledge, Essential Skills and Experience

  • Leadership: a demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others

  • Will have knowledge of all fabricating methods, techniques, and related equipment

  • Must be familiar with product construction and application

  • Must be able to read and interpret drawings and specifications

  • Supervision, including employee hiring and retention, performance review and discipline

  • Quality employee orientation, training, development and attention to detail

  • An ability to balance and achieve positive results in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, cost and employee relations

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations

  • Will be computer literate, particularly in shop floor control, production planning, and inventory control applications



Education

  • Mechanical knowledge and product knowledge

  • The position requires basic math skills, the ability to read dimensions and a tape measure


Work Environment

Most work takes place in an enclosed warehouse
Regularly required to stand, walk and occasionally bend and move about the facility
Must be able to work in a hot environment
Some physical exertion required
Must wear long pants, sleeved-shirts and sturdy work boots – gloves and protective sleeves as needed
